On the Madonna and Child Enthroned with Saints...

This imposing altarpiece by one of the most noted representatives of Sienese Renaissance belongs to Vecchietta’s mature production and is one of his assured masterpieces, showing the artist’s familiarity with the Florentine artistic developments, from Beato Angelico to Andrea del Castagno and Domenico Veneziano.

The panel was donated by the Sienese nobleman Francesco Petrucci to the Grand Duke of Tuscany in 1798.

The altarpiece is in a rather poor state of conservation as regards both its carpentry and its pictorial surface disturbed by numerous alterations and repainting from older restorations.
