Interpreting the Nude in Italian Renaissance Art
The nude was a common representation in Italian Renaissance Art, so much so that the Italians were famed internationally for this type of imagery. Dr. Mathews addresses various types of nude figures, religious, erotic, allegorical, scientific, heroic, assessing the social and cultural functions that they played and the meanings they would have had for patrons and audiences in Renaissance Italy.
