Collaboration, Experimentation, and Meditation: Michelangelo’s Final Period
After the unveiling of the Last Judgement in the Sistine Chapel in 1541, Michelangelo produced few other public, finished works. This does not mean, however, that he was not still involved in the art world. In fact, his last years are marked by his collaborations with other artists, experimental iconographies and techniques, and a combination of art and meditation in order to save his soul. Drawn from Dr. Fenichel’s forthcoming book (Cambridge University Press), this talk will consider the artist’s final period broadly and will offer new interpretations of both familiar and little known works.
