Dr. Emily Fenichel, Associate Professor of Art History, Florida Atlantic University Titian at the Uffizi Gallery Titian was the only Venetian painter in the Renaissance to challenge the Florentine masters for pre-eminence on the world stage. Collected and lauded internationally during his lifetime, Titian is also among the most influential artists of all time, inspiring many later generations. Using examples from the Uffizi Gallery’s collection, Dr. Fenichel explores why Titian is so important in the history of Renaissance Art and the history of Western Art in general. Focusing on the artist’s religious paintings, mythological subjects, and portraits, the presentation reveals the recent renovation of the Titian rooms in the Uffizi, which was funded by the American Friends of the Uffizi.
