Located above the door that leads from the vestibule into the first corridor of the Uffizi Gallery, this bust and commemorative plaque give recognition to Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo who was responsible for the addition of the vestibule as the entrance. The plaque commemorates his reorganization of the entire collection in 1769. Both the plaque and the bust are made of Italian marble and were darkened by thick deposits of dust and other pollutants brought in, inadvertently, by centuries of visitors for whom the entrance was designed.
