The Friends of the Uffizi Galleries (American supporters of the Florentine
museum) purchase two drawings by the painter Franceschini and two by the
sculptor Foggini at auctions in New York.

Italian Culture Minister Dario Franceschini has reappointed Eike Schmidt as director of the Uffizi museum in Florence after the German art historian cancelled his planned move to Vienna’s Kunsthistorisches Museum at the last minute.
In a tweet, Franceschini said Schmidt is to stay at the Uffizi for another four years.

Bill Viola Donates Self Portrait to the Uffizi Gallery

The donation was made possible through the efforts of the Amici degli Uffizi in Florence, sister organization to the Friends of the Uffizi Gallery.

Veronica Atkins Funds Apollo with Lyre Restoration

Friends of the Uffizi Gallery is excited to announce that Veronica Atkins, a resident of Palm Beach, Florida, has made a generous $25,000 gift to fund the restoration of the “Apollo with Lyre” sculpture found in the collection of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. The sculpture dates back to the 2nd century AD.

Michelangelo Room Restoration

Friends of the Uffizi Gallery and their sister organization in Italy, Amici degli Uffizi fully funded the re-construction and re-installation of the new Michelangelo Room at the Uffizi Gallery. The room contains Michelangelo’s oil and tempera on panel painting, “Tondo Doni.”
