Despite the dangers of war, famine, and disease that plagued the Renaissance period, some artists lived to astonishingly old ages and continued to create well into their 80s and 90s. Moreover, many of the works that these aging artists produced were among the most creatively daring of their careers. This talk will explore how artists such as Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Titian used their late works to challenge themselves, their fellow artists, and to “rage against the dying of the light.”
